Imran Khan to seek Vote of Confidence on Saturday

Imran Khan, Pakistan Prime Minister, will seek a vote of confidence after his finance minister was defeated in the Senate elections.

Pakistan finance minister Abdul Hafeez Shaikh lost to former premier Yusuf Raza Gilani in the Senate election on Wednesday.

Imran who is the chairman of Pakistan’s Tehreek-e-Insaf had personally campaigned for Shaikh while Gilani, Pakistan People’s Party veteran was a consensus candidate of the opposition. Following Shaikh’s defeat many opposition party leaders called for Imran Khan’s resignation.

Pakistan foreign minister  Shah Mahmood Qureshi told media that Imran Khan has decided to seek the vote of confidence following the finance minister’s loss in Senate election.

Pakistan People Party chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari meanwhile told media, “Imran Khan should resign, this is not only the Opposition's demand but of the government's own members.” He added that it was the dawn of a new era in Pakistan’s democracy.
