Rome, Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte expanded the nation's national coronavirus lockdown by "at least" extra 20 days to May 3. 

The Prime minister's declaration on Friday came around one month after the first decree went into power. From that point forward, Conte has occasionally reinforced the conditions of the lockdown and expanded its length, Xinhua news office detailed. 

Prior to this expansion, the measures were scheduled to be lifted on Monday, however, reports started flowing on Thursday that it would be reached out into May after Conte held a conference call with worker's organization heads. 

Italy was the principal nation in Europe to issue a national lockdown as an approach to control the spread of the corona. 

The expansion implies that inhabitants in Italy won't have the option to leave their homes with the exception of "vital" reasons, such as nourishment shopping or clinical visits, in an additional 20 days. 

Italy remains one of the nations hit hardest by the coronavirus pandemic, with about 19,000 passings and almost 150,000 infections.
