Sharif felt belittled during India visit

Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is "not too pleased" with the India visit last week, where he attended the swearing-in ceremony of Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister, in New Delhi, according to a media report which is based on the claim of an anonymous senior  leader of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League (N) PML-N party.

A senior PML-N member reportedly made a claim to Dawn News that Sharif was not too pleased with India not holding a joint press conference following the one-on-one meeting between the two premiers.

Sharif's delegation was eagerly looking forward to a joint communiqué being issued, but New Delhi unilaterally released a press statement which did not carry Islamabad's stance, claims the news report in Dawn.

"Sharif is not too overwhelmed by the reception he received in India during his visit to Delhi to attend the oath-taking ceremony of Modi," the report claimed quoting Sharif’s PML-N party colleague.

The PML-N leader disclosed the Pakistan government is now pushing for secretary-level talks — agreed upon by India and Pakistan during Sharif's visit — for some breakthrough in enhancing ties with India. (Inputs from agencies)
