The UK's government launched new counter-terrorism strategy, CONTEST, based on 4Ps with overarching aim to reduce the risk to the UK and its citizens and interests overseas.

Home Secretary Sajid Javid said:''The threat from terrorism is one of the starkest that we face. Last year, sickening acts of terrorism in the UK claimed the lives of 36 people and of course changed the lives of many more.''

The strategic framework is based on four ‘P’ work strands:

Prevent: to stop people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism.

Pursue: to stop terrorist attacks.

Protect: to strengthen protection against a terrorist attack.

Prepare: to mitigate the impact of a terrorist attack.

''The aim of this strategy, is to ensure that our response to terrorism is second to none and that we are doing everything within our power to prevent terror on our streets,'' he explained in a speech published by the Foreign & Commonwealth Office .

''There’s an ongoing battle. A battle for hearts and minds. It will be won in the schools. It will be won in the mosques.

And on our social media. And we must all play our role. No terrorist or terrorist group can possibly bring the people of the United Kingdom to their knees,'' he asserted.
