US Fastens Move to Design

WASHINGTON: The United States has fastened the move to designate Masood Azhar as a global terrorist ahead of a crucial UN Security Council meeting. The US said on Tuesday that Masood Azhar meets the criteria to be designated as a global terrorist and any move to block it would be a threat to the regional stability and peace.

Masood Azhar founded terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed and had carried out many terror strikes in India. Masood Azhar was the mastermind behind all the major terror attacks in India, the 2001 attack on Parliament, attack on the Pathankot airforce base in 2016, Uri attack in 2016 and the final one in Pulwama last month.

India has been pushing the UN for several years to list Masood Azhar as a global terrorist, but blocked by the repeated intervention of China, an all-weather ally of Pakistan.
