Joe Biden, US President, has appointed Maju Varghese, an Indian-American, who served as the Chief Operating Officer of his campaign, as the Director of White House Military Office.

Varghese was proactively involved in managing the logistics of Biden’s election campaign as well as that of Vice President Kamala Harris. Later he was the executive director of their inauguration, including the swearing in ceremonies as well as the festivities around it.

As the Director of White House Military Office, Varghese will be overseeing military support, including medical support services, medical emergencies, presidential transportation and official ceremonies and functions.

Earlier Varghese was President Barrack Obama’s special assistant in White House and was involved in organizing Obama’s trip to India in 2015 for Republic Day celebrations.

Varghese’s parents had immigrated from Kerala to the US, where he was born. A lawyer by training, Varghese is one of the 20 Indian-Americans appointed in senior positions in Biden’s administration.
