New Delhi: The 2024 Paris Olympics got underway with thunderclouds and heavy rain. NASA released spectacular photos of the city on Saturday.

The International Space Station (ISS) posted some images from its X social media account.

The orbiting laboratory posted, “The City of Light. Paris, where the 2024 Olympics just kicked off, dazzles in these night-time photos taken from the International Space Station.”

Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk liked the images and posted that “the Olympics laser show was amazing.”

“Amazing view! What an amazing planet!” posted an X user.

Breaking from tradition, the 2024 Paris Olympics’ opening ceremony was a spectacle like no other. For the first time in the Olympics’ history, it was conducted in the city’s centre alongside the Seine River, a unique and breathtaking setting that left the audience in awe.

“Paris goes to sleep, but the Olympic rings still shine. Tomorrow, the sports begin,” posted the official Paris Olympics X account.

The Parade of the Nations was a sight to behold, with Greek delegates leading the way. Athletes from almost 200 nations, including India, made a grand entrance, riding boats down the Seine River, symbolizing the unity and diversity of the global sports community.

India is well-represented in the 2024 Olympics in Paris, with 117 athletes competing. These athletes will be participating in 16 of the 32 sports in this edition of the Olympic Games.

India will begin its hockey, badminton, shooting, tennis, rowing, and archery campaign on Saturday, the opening day of contests.
