New Delhi: The Congress party declared that the government’s annual Economic Survey, delivered in Parliament on Monday, was not in line with the country’s actual ground realities and rejected it.

Gaurav Gogoi, the Congress Deputy Leader in the Lok Sabha, stated during a press conference held at the AICC headquarters here that the Survey disregarded the stark reality of skyrocketing prices and pervasive unemployment the nation was facing.

The Congress spokesperson accused the Economic Survey of utilising well-known scare tactics and misinformation “associated with the Modi administration,” claiming that everything would seem fine if one were to trust the Survey.

He noted that this was not the reality, pointing out massive unemployment and that inflation rates were still just about 10%.

He emphasised that the poor and middle classes suffered the most from the economic downturn, while the wealthy might not feel the squeeze.

Gogoi also drew attention to the declining state of public transportation, especially in the railways’ sleeper and general-class sections, which lower-class and middle-class people mainly use.

He criticised the government for prioritising air-conditioned buses over these groups of people’s essential transportation requirements.

Gogoi brought up the urgent problem of unemployment, citing cases in which young people in desperation went to drastic lengths to escape their lack of prospects at home, such as enlisting in foreign armies like the Russian Army to fight in Ukraine or working in Israel’s combat zones.

In an attempt to get employment, he said that many were even making illegal immigration attempts.

Gogoi expressed doubts about any significant results from the Union Budget, which is scheduled to be unveiled on Tuesday, accusing the administration of engaging in meaningless talk.

He also mentioned the worries a former Reserve Bank of India Deputy Governor expressed about the consolidation of economic power in the hands of a few powerful firms.

Gogoi concluded by lamenting that the Budget seemed destined to enrich a small group of influential people while giving nothing more than empty platitudes to common people, young people without jobs, and farmers.
