The death toll from floods in Kerala rose to 78 and 58 people were reported missing, officials said Monday as rains let up enabling rescue teams to change focus on rehabilitating at least 300,000 inhabitants in the state.

No red alert was sounded on Monday in Kerala as the ongoing heavy downpour in the last few days brought back memories of last year's flooding that murdered over 400 individuals in the state.

Centers for distributing relief material were opened in many places as rescue workers said it would take at least two more days to remove the slush mound triggered by state-wide landslides.

Flight operations from the international airport at Kochi resumed on Sunday afternoon, two days after they were shut due to the inundation of the runway area.
