Bengaluru: Verification of the Unique Identification Number (Aadhaar) would be mandatory for new retailers from January 2020 to reduce mispractice in paying goods and services tax, said Sushil Kumar Modi, chairman of the GST Network of Ministers. "All new dealers will have to submit their Aadhaar number for authentication as of January 1st. Although presently optional, it has been made compulsory for New Year (2020) to curb false invoices that came to light after the new tax system came into force as of July 1st, 2017," Modi informed journalists here after a session of the group on Saturday. The GST Network has also decided to complete online refunding from September 24 from the central GST or the state GST.
The next GST Council meeting will be held at Panaji in Goa on September 20.
