Indian Army organised a programme with the theme "Empowerment of Widows and Veer Naris" at Sena Cinema on 16 Feb 2019. This is also part of the initiative for the year 2019 being declared as the 'Year of the NOK' ) (Next of Kin), i.e. family of the martyrs by Indian Army.
The programme was attended by sixty Veer Naris from the states of Maharashtra and Gujarat. Mrs Mamta Prashar, President Zonal Executive Council while interacting with the Veer Naris stated that the initiative to empower the Veer Naris would go a long way in strengthening them to face the challenges of life. Their husbands have given supreme sacrifice for the nation. Lt Gen S K Prashar, AVSM, VSM, GOC, MG & G Area while addressing the Veer Naris assured them of all the support. He also reiterated measures and initiatives undertaken for their welfare. The President Rajya Mahila Aayog, Mrs Vijaya Rahatkar also addressed the Veer Naris regarding the initiatives of the Rajya Mahila Aayog.
Mrs Trupti Nair wife of Maj Late Shashidharan Nair, who laid down his life for the nation on 10 Jan 2019 was felicitated with Automated Wheelchair by MG & G Area.
Besides the above, the other prominent speaker who contributed towards the programme included Mrs Anuradha Gore, Veer Mata, Mrs Mrinalini Kher on skill education. Mrs Meenal Mohadikar on entrepreneurship, Mrs Sumita Khanzode on positive thinking and stress management, Prof Ajeet Joshi on literacy in money management and Mr Sudarshan Roongta on planning and learning about investment.
Col Rakesh Chauhan and his team have taken special initiative to make successful the event.
The programme concluded with the felicitation of all the Veer Naris. The Indian Army's initiative to commemorate the year 2019 as the 'Year of NOK' is a step to reach out to all the widows and Veer Naris.
