Budget 2014: Health for all

The new Budget of prime minister Narendra Modi government has primarily focused on health sector that promises to provide free drug and diagnosis services in order to achieve “ Health For All” mission.
 
Two National Institutes of Ageing would be set up at AIIMS, New Delhi and Madras Medical College, Chennai, the budget stated. A national level research and referral Institute for higher dental studies are also to be set up, it said.
 
AIIMS like institutions, it stressed, are to be established in Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Vidarbha in Maharashtra and Poorvanchal in UP. The budget has earmarked Rs 500 crores for this.
 
Twelve new government medical colleges will be set up soon in states and States’ Drug Regulatory and Food Regulatory Systems will be strengthened by creating
new drug testing laboratories and strengthening the 31 existing State laboratories.
 
15 Model Rural Health Research Centres are to be set up for research on local healthissues concerning rural population. A national programme to confront deteriorating malnutrition situation in India will soon be put in place within six months.
