Just before Sushma Swaraj underwent a cardiac arrest and was taken to hospital, she had a light-hearted chat with senior lawyer Harish Salve, during which she requested him to "come and collect his Re 1 fee" for representing India at the International Court of Justice in the case of Kulbhushan Jadhav, a former officer under death row in Pakistan.
Harish Salve shared Tuesday night's phone discussion with Sushma Swaraj, who led India's diplomatic attempts to save Jadhav as Foreign Minister in the first term of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
"She sounded very cheerful and she was very happy. She asked me why I didn't come here to meet her on this visit. I said I'm going to come and meet her today (Wednesday). I was to meet her today at 6 pm. I was so shocked, 10 minutes later she had a cardiac arrest.
