Karti Chidambaram, son of former finance minister and Congress leader P Chidambaram, suffered a huge setback in court on Tuesday when a special court extended his CBI custody until Friday and also dashed his hopes on protection from a possible arrest.
Karti has been under CBI custody for alleged money laundering and reportedly accepted bribes to divert laws in favour of INX Media, a claim raised by jailed Indrani Mukerjea.
Senior Congress leader and Karti's lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi had opposed the CBI's plea for custody extension, saying the agency had questioned Karti for only 25 minutes during the five-day remand.
