The BMC is all set to cancel the occupation certification (OC) of Lotus Business Park on Monday. The entry to the building that was hit by the worst inferno on Friday will be barred until all fire safety norms are complied with, the fire department informed journalists on Sunday.

"We crosschecked the approved floor-wise plan of the building and its existing status. We noticed many additions and alterations," said deputy fire officer S H Nesrikar. "We have instructed the ward office to immediately cancel the building's OC. It will not be restored unless the building follows the fire safety rules."

The 22-storey building, whose top three floors were reduced to cinders on Friday, was examined on Sunday by fire personnel and BMC's building proposals department besides others. A few structural tests were also conducted during the visit. The cause of the fire is still unknown.

"Yet we have not received a report from the fire department. But once we get it, we will take action as per the directives. Till the fire safety norms are adhered to, offices in the building will not be allowed to operate out of it," said Vishwas Shankarwar, assistant municipal commissioner (K-West ward).

Meanwhile, four of the 19 firemen injured in the Friday blaze are still recuperating in the hospital. Cooper Hospital's sources revealed 15 of the firemen did not have any severe injuries and were thus discharged. Four were shifted to the Airoli-based National Burns Centre (NBC) on Friday.

According to doctors attending them all four are stable, while one of them may require prolonged hospitalization. "He has facial burns and his ears got affected. Another had inhalation injuries, so we may observe him for a while. All of them have 5-8% burn wounds on hands, which is not very serious," said an NBC doctor.
