The search engine giant Google has launched a map application that offers information on areas impacted by the killer floods, relief centers and roads closed in rain-ravaged Uttrakhand.
"This crisis map is only an early version aimed at providing quick information, such as, places affected, relief centres and road closures," a blog post by Jayanth Mysore, senior product manager at Google Asia-Pacific region said. The search engine launched an application 'Person Finder' to offer information on missing people in flood-affected areas in the country, including Uttarakhand.
Google Person Finder is a web application that allows individuals to post and search for the status of relatives or friends affected by a disaster. Flash floods and landslides triggered by the monsoon fury left over hundreds dead in calamity-hit Uttarakhand while thousands of pilgrims and locals are being rescued from
various districts.
