New Delhi: On Monday the Supreme Court ordered the central government to give all female officers in the Indian Army a permanent commission within three months. Rejecting the Center's statement of physiological limits and social norms to refuse them permanent commission and command posts, the court said it was troubling and contradictory to the equality principle. The bench headed by Justice DY Chandrachud said women officers have brought laurels to the country in the past and the government needs to change its mindset to end the gender bias in the armed forces.
