In a Request for Information, the Air Force recently stated that India is set to buy around 100 new fighter jets. The deal is expected to cost about Rs. 100,000 crore.

The Request for Information lays down parameters on the basis of which the Air Force will evaluate fighter jets from manufacturers such as SAAB of Sweden, Lockheed Martin and Boeing of the United States, Dassault of France, MiG of Russia and the European consortium Eurofighter.

The Air Force, however, asserted that 85% will have to be made in India and that the first aircraft must be delivered within three years of signing the contract. The request for information is open until July.
