Thirty-eight-year-old Harshpal Singh, a Central Reserve Police Deputy Commander (CRPF), has difficulty remembering his award dates. It may be understandable given that since he joined the CRPF in 2004, he has won five gallantry prizes. The second highest peacetime gallantry medal –the Kirti Chakara – given to Harshpal on the 73rd Independence Day. Last September in Jhajjar, Harshpal and his team eliminated three terrorists – Kotli in Jammu. The encounter left him with wounds to the bullet and splinter.

Harspal Singh has also received three gallantry police medals and a gallantry medal of Jharkhand chief minister. "It's very uncommon. We're very proud. This is a well-deserved honor," said Bhatnagar, Director General of CRPF RR.
