Tiranga Rally near Dal Lake in Srinagar, Kashmir

Srinagar: A wave of unity and patriotism swept through the Srinagar area of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday as thousands of people, inspired by the spirit of India’s Independence Day, attended a grand ‘Tiranga’ rally.

Estimates indicate that more than 10,000 people attended the event, which was led by Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha. The rally started at the Botanical Garden, at the edge of Dal Lake.

Participants marched up to the Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre. The rally will end at the Botanical Garden as the participants return to the garden.

Next, a cultural program at the Botanical Garden featuring patriotic music and events commemorating the country’s freedom will take place in the wake of a canvas signature drive.

The ‘Tiranga’ rally, a significant part of the government’s ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, is a call to every Indian to bring the flag home and hoist it with pride, marking India’s Independence. This rally, along with others in several districts of the union territory, is a testament to the unity and patriotism of the people.

After Parliament abrogated Article 370 on August 5, 2019, J&K was wholly integrated with the rest of the country.

After August 5, 2019, it was made mandatory for all government buildings, schools, colleges, and universities to hoist the national flag on August 15 to send a powerful message of India’s unity and integrity from Kashmir to Kanyakumari.

Article 370 abrogation was followed by the J&K Reorganisation Act 2019, a significant legislation that extended all central laws, rights, privileges, duties, and obligations to J&K. This act played a crucial role in the integration of J&K with the rest of the country.

Regressive laws like non-inheritance by daughters in the ancestral property if they chose to marry a man from outside the state, denial of equal share in the parental property to daughters, denial of land ownership and jobs to people not belonging to J&K and many other such laws were repealed through the J&K Reorganisation Act 2019.
