ME News Bureau: The draft report presented in the Loka Kerala Sabha reveals that more number of oversees people are coming to Kerala while the state still largely depends on its money from abroad. Loka Kerala Sabha is depicted as a ground-breaking ceremony to collectively bring together the vast diaspora of Keralites to provide impetus for the state development.

The draft report states that there were 13.62 expatriates in 1998 where 7.39 lakh among them came back. The number of emigrants raised to 18.38 lakh in 2003 while 8.94 people came back. People who went abroad raised to 21.93 in 2008 as 11.57 lakh came back. Both the figures show hike in 2014 which means that many people are willing to comeback to their home state.

According to Kerala migration survey, the state earned 13,652 crore from migrants in 1998. It turned to 18,645 crore in 2003. As per the figures in 2014, revenue from migrants were 71,142 which is 36% of Kerala's domestic production. India received 68,910 million dollors from expatriates, 12.45% of global expatriate amount.

86% of the Keralites have emigrated to gulf countries, but the figures reveal that there is a gradual decline in the migration to those countries. Average number of migrants in United States belong to 3.4% of Kerala's total migration while 2.4% in Europe.

Seven lakh people have migrated to other states in the country as 33%of them live in Karnataka. 17% live in Tamil Nadu, 14% in Maharashtra and 8% in Delhi.
