The Governor of Maharahstra K Sankaranarayanan has expressed grief over the demise of veteran CPI leader Sri Veliyam Bhargavan in Kerala on Wednesday, 18 September 2013. In a condolence message from Mumbai, Sankaranarayanan has said:

“Sri Veliyam Bhargavan was a dedicated and popular Communist leader who had worked both at the national and State level. In spite of being in the thick of politics, he remained away from the trappings of power.  Sri Bhargawan was a great organisation man who represented the virtues of austerity and probity in public life. Although Sri Bhargavan and I were working in different political parties, we had great admiration and respect for each other.  In fact, he had friends cutting across the party lines.

In his demise, Kerala has lost an astute leader and a noble person.  I pay my respects to the fond memory of late Sri Bhargavan and convey my heartfelt condolences to his near and dear ones.”
