India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump had an extensive discussion on matters surrounding trade, defence and security to further smoothen bilateral ties. They also deliberated upon regional issues, US peace deal offer with the Taliban, Indo-Pacific developments, terrorism and the uncertainties in the Gulf.

Modi thanked Trump for taking out time from his busy schedule to visit India while Trump described the last two days visit as amazing, particularly the Motera stadium in Ahmedabad. “It was a great honour for me. The people were there more for you than me…1,25,000 people were inside. Every time I mentioned your name, there were cheers. People love you,” Trump told Modi in front of the media.

India and the US are expected to sign defence deals worth $3 billion. As part of the defence deal US will sell advanced air defence systems and armed and unarmed earlier vehicles.

Earlier in the day Trump was welcomed at Rashtrapati Bhavan by President of India, Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Trump also received a tri-services guard of honour at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
