A student of the Mukesh Patel School of Technology Management and Engineering (MPSTMR) was awarded the Harvard World UN-sponsored Resolution Fellowship for his project to combat suicides among students. Sagar Menon received the fellowship for his project ‘Citta’ at a recent conference in Madrid. He is a third-year B.Tech (IT) student of MPSTMR. Neelika Chakrabarti, another third-year B.Tech student in Computer Science, is a partner in the project.

‘Citta’ is an attempt to combat student suicides by ensuring better access to healing and rehabilitation, and also tackling the stigma attached to mental health issues. The project, which will get a seed funding of $3000, is scalable up to $1 million based on its progress, with a potential to be PE funded in the future, based on its commercial prospects.

The project can also seek mentors from Harvard alumni and has access to the vast network of Resolution Fellows worldwide, giving its partners the opportunity to exploit any business synergy.

The award was founded in 2007 by Harvard alumni with a vision to generate socially responsible young leaders with a lifetime commitment to serving the society and to empower them to create a positive impact through their innovative efforts. Currently, there are more than 400 Resolution Fellows in 70 countries, working on diverse and high-impact fields like human rights, energy, environment, education, technology, community development, etc.

The five-day conference was attended by more than 2,100 delegates from 113 countries.
