Mumbai witnesses 53% turnout, Maharashtra and J&K disappoint

The city witnessed 53% turnout which went to poll for its six Lok Sabha seats today. Mumbaikars being lazy voters, the polling was slow in the morning as expected, which went brisk as the day advanced.
 
Constituency-wise the turnout in Mumbai oscillated between 50% – 53%: North 51% (2009: 42.57%); North West 50% (2009: 44.05%); North East 52% (2009 42.4%); North Central 51% (2009: 39.5 %).
 
Besides the city’s 6 seats, the last phase of voting in Maharashtra, the state witnessed polls in 19 constituencies including Mumbai. In the rest of the state the turnout was dismal (55%). In the previous parliamentary elections in 2009, the city had registered 41% turnout that was much below the national average. 
 
Tamil Nadu (73%), UP, MP (64%), Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Assam, West Bengal (82%), Rajasthan (59.2), Jharkhand, J&K (28%) and Puducherry too witnessed polls today. The turnouts in most of these states were quite impressive with Puducherry and WB registering over 82% poll.
