New Delhi:Rajya Sabha enacted the National Medical Commission Bill on Thursday to replace Indian  Medical Council with a fresh body, in what the government described as one of the country's largest health education reforms.A voice vote passed the bill seeking to repeal the 1956 Indian Medical Council Act, in the midst of an AIADMK walkout.

The Lok Sabha  had passed the National Medical Commission Bill 2019 on July 29.

Health Minister Harsh Vardhan, in his reply, on the debate on the bill said  National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is already an institutionalised body which is conducting examinations in 13 languages.

"Once the NMC Bill is approved, exit examination will be implemented in the next three years,"He said.
