Mumbai City Collector and Mumbai City Electoral Officer, Shaila A on Tuesday rubbished reports that an First Information Report (FIR) was filed against Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan for violating the election code of conduct on April 21, night .
There were media reports that a person had registered an FIR with the Gamdevi police against Chavan for inciting communal feelings whie exhorting voters to cast their votes for the Congress. While police commisioner Rakesh Maria denied having knowledge about an FIR having being registered against Chavan saying, “EC must be aware of the matter,” Shaila outrigthly said,”there is no FIR registered against Chavan.
Meanwhile, EC has registered through the police around 16 FIRs against political parties for violating the election code of conduct in Mumbai city.
