New Delhi: Former Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram, who yesterday spent his first night at cell number 7 in Tihar jail, began his day this morning with a light breakfast. A Delhi court sent Mr Chidambaram in the INX Media corruption case to two-week judicial custody on Thursday.
The senior leader of the Congress was taken to jail last night. He did not have any special facilities except for a distinct cell and a western toilet as stipulated by the tribunal, jail officials said.
Like other prisoners, Mr Chidambaram will also have access to the prison library and will be able to watch TV for a defined period of time. Chidambaram began his morning today with a light breakfast. On Thursday night, he had rotis (Indian bread), dal (lentil), sabji (vegetables) and rice, as per the prion's menu. Mr Chidambaram was lodged in prison number 7 after the compulsory medical check-up, which generally houses those charged in involving the Enforcement Directorate case. By the way, in the same case last year, his son Karti Chidambaram was also lodged in the same cell for 12 days.
