India's President Ram Nath Kovind rejected on Friday the death row petition for Mukesh Singh, who was previously sentenced to death along with three others in connection with the 2012 Delhi gang-rape case (known as the Nirbhaya gang-rape and murder case). Earlier, it was reported that Mukesh Singh's plea for mercy had been forwarded to the President by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Thursday, sources said. The Delhi government also rejected the plea for mercy, after which the petition was forwarded to the Lieutenant Governor, who had sent it to the Ministry of Home Affairs of the Union to be sent to the President in turn.
