Manila: Ravish Kumar, a prominent Indian journalist was awarded the prestigious 2019 Ramon Magsaysay Award, considered the Asian Nobel Prize version. Kumar, 44, is the senior executive editor of NDTV India and one of India's most important TV reporters who reported real-life and under-reported issues of ordinary people, the Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation's award citation said. "Indian press is in a state of crisis, and this crisis is not accidental or random, but a systemic and structural one. Being a journalist has become a lonely effort," Kumar said in his acceptance speech here in the capital of the Philippines. The four other winners of the 2019 Ramon Magsaysay Award are Ko Swe Win from Myanmar, Angkhana Neelapaijit from Thailand, Raymundo Pujante Cayabyab from the Philippines and Kim Jong-Ki from South Korea.
