SC collegium clears 8 nam

New Delhi: The SC collegium has cleared eight names for the chief justices of the High Court, including Madhya Pradesh, acting Chief Justice Ravi Shankar Jha, as Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

The Government made Jha the acting CJ in June and last week returned the suggestion of the Collegium of Justice Akil A Kureshi of the High Court of Bombay to consider him to any other High Court. Justice Kureshi was initially a judge of the High Court of Gujarat.At the collegium sessions conducted on 22 and 28 August, the proceedings of which are published on the SC website on Friday evening, no decision has been taken on Justice Kureshi, but the collegium may again press for Justice Kureshi as MP CJ, as no one else has recommended while transferring Jha who was the acting CJ there.

The collegium also on Wednesday recommended four Chief Justices of the High Courts for elevation as SC judges.
