On Friday, the Supreme Court decided to hear from August 6 on a daily basis the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid conflict as three-member mediation committee was unable to get the multiple sides engaged in it to agree. A five-judge constitutional bench, comprising India's Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, and SA Bobde, DY Chandrachud, Ashok Bhushan, and S Abdul Nazeer, arrived at this judgment following Thursday's panel report.

The mediation panel report, comprising former Supreme Court judge FMI Kalifulla, spiritual guru and founder of Art of Living Founder Sri Sri Ravishankar and senior lawyer Sriram Panchu, a renowned mediator, came after nearly four and a half months of negotiations between Hindu and Muslim litigants to explore the possibility of an out-of-court settlement of Ayodhya land dispute for decades.
