Shehla Rashid, leader of the Jammu and Kashmir People's Movement, was booked for sedition over her tweets alleging that the armed forces "tortured" civilians and ransacked houses in the Valley after Jammu and Kashmir's  special status revoked, police said Friday.

She was also accused of spreading "false news" with the purpose of "maligning the Indian Army image," they said. On August 17, Rashid claimed in a sequence of tweets that the armed forces were entering houses in Kashmir at night and "ransacking" them.
