Former Union Minister P Chidambaram prevented the chance of being sent to Tihar Jail in Delhi today as his CBI custody was extended by the Supreme Court until Thursday. Mr Chidambaram is 74 years old and should be shielded, Kapil Sibal argued for his senior Congressman, who has been in CBI detention for 11 days since his August 21 detention. "There must be some protection to Chidambaram. He is 74 years old. Let him be put under house arrest and not sent to Tihar Jail," Kapil Sibal appealed to the Supreme Court. The top court said the former Finance Minister, arrested by the CBI in a corruption case, should apply for regular bail before the competent court.
