Media Eye News Bureau: Tamil Nadu CM Edappadi K Palaniswami expressed that the Supreme Court verdict in the Cauvery water dispute was disappointing.

He said, “We appreciate the fact that Supreme Court said that no one was an owner of the resources but everyone has equal rights over a river. Considering the ground water level and reducing the water allotment for Tamil Nadu from 192 TMC to 177.25 TMC is disappointing.”

He said “We will initiate a detailed discussion with experts on the judgment and then announce its next action plan. We will do our best to ensure that our rights are restored and the best in the Cauvery issue is done.”

He also alleged that the government of Karnataka constructed dams ‘without any discussion or consultation with the central government.’

The SC announced the verdict that the amount of Cauvery water allotted to Tamil Nadu would be lowered to 404.25 tmcft (thousand million cubic feet), whereas to Karnataka, the SC allotted 270 tmcft Cauvery water, which is 14.75 tmcft more than the Tribunal award. The allotments for Puducherry (30 tmcft) and Kerala (7 tmcft) remain unchanged.
