A thunderstorm alert was issued by the Union Home Ministry for today in 13 states, forcing the Haryana government to instruct all the schools remain closed for the next two days. The Home ministry's new safety alert came in the wake of recent calamities where 124 people were killed in the sand storm across various parts of North India.
There will be heavy rain in the Northeastern states of Assam, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura as well as thunderstorm and squall in some parts of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha, Sikkim, Bengal, Karnataka and Kerala.
Thunderstorm and dust storm had created lot of problems in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan in the last w eek where the two states accounted for 67 death out of the 124 people died across north India.
