Join the Army and serve the nation said Lt. General S.K. Prashar, GOC, Maharashtra, Gujarat and  Goa area, after felicitating the war widows and wounded soldiers on Republic Day at the Shanmukhananda hall. “It is only in the armed forces one can find real national integration, as the solders are coming from different regions of India”. They are fighting in the border areas in hot and cold weather conditions only to protect the country. “ The organizations like Shanmukhananda remembering the soldiers and their families and felicitating them itself gives them the confidence that they are not alone and the entire society is behind them, the General said.

Fifteen wounded army men, who were disabled due to injuries suffered in various actions, and eight war widows of Martyrs who lost their lives during 2019-20 while fighting were honoured on the Republic Day, at the Shanmukhananda Hall.

Organised by the Shanmukhananda,  the General also conferred  Sri Shanmukhananda Shaurya Ratna award and a cash price of Rs. One lakh, to Smt. Shakeela Shoukat Ali whose entire family, husband Naik Shaukat Ali, sons Major Javed Khan and Lt. Jafar Khan are in the Army.

Mrs Shakeela Ali after receiving the award said “Nothing is bigger than serving the nation. I supported my children to pursue their dreams right from their school days. She did not think of any other profession other than Army for her children, she said. If I had two more sons, I would have given them also to serve in the Army, Shakeela who came with her husband Naik Shoukat Ali for the award said. She was sitting at home and giving tuitions to young children and encouraging them to join the armed forces.

Every year jointly with the Indian Army, on the Republic Day, the Sabha felicitates disabled Army men who were incapacitated to various degrees of disability while defending the nation and the  Martyrs families of the men in uniform who sacrificed their lives in the cause of the nation on the independence day. This year due to lockdown the August 15 function could not be held. Hence both functions will be held jointly this year said the president of the Sabha Dr V. Shankar.

The wounded warriors were presented with a purse of Rs. one Lakh cash and mementoes, and the family of Martyrs were presented a purse of Rs. 2 lakhs and mementoes.
