Chandigarh: In a compelling narrative about an Indian father-son duo, emotional scenes were seen in Amritsar, Punjab. A father was pleasantly surprised by his son Rin, who travelled from Japan to Amritsar. The video of Rin hugging his father, Sukhpal Singh, has gone viral online.

A determined young man, 21-year-old Rin Takahata, was just one year old when his mother, Sachiye, separated from his father. His resolve to complete a college assignment requiring him to trace his family tree led him to his father, Sukhpal Singh, after two decades of separation.

His father, Sukhpal, is now married again and has a daughter. Both his wife and daughter welcomed Rin into the family wholeheartedly. Singh said he regularly called Sachiye to learn more about Rin’s well-being. He took him to visit the Golden Temple, and they also watched the Beating Retreat ceremony at the Attari border, strengthening their bond.

Narrating his past, Sukhpal said he met Sachiye at the Thailand airport and married her in 2002 in Japan. A year later, Rin was born.

Their marriage faced challenges, and they divorced in 2004. Sukhpal remarried in 2007. However, his Japanese ex-wife never married again.

His son Rin will return to Japan in September when his college starts. Sukhpal intends to visit his son in Japan, and Rin will also continue visiting India.
