The Congress and the BJP accused each other of hiring the services of the controversial Cambridge Analytica firm that has come under the scanner recently for data theft.

The Congress alleged that the BJP hired the company’s services in various state polls such as in Bihar, Maharashtra, Haryana, Jharkhand and Delhi as well as for its ‘Mission272+’ in the 2014 general elections.

Congress communications in-charge Randeep Surjewala questioned PM Narendra Modi and Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad over hiring of the British firm in previous state polls.

The BJP charge was lead by Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, who rejected the Congress’ allegation that his party had hired the services of the firm.

Congress chief Rahul Gandhi took to Twitter to slam the BJP, he tweeted, “Problem: 39 Indians dead; Government on the mat, caught lying. Solution: Invent story on Congress and data theft. Result: Media networks bite bait; 39 Indians vanish from radar. Problem solved.”

Surjewala added that the law minister, Prasad was spreading “lies and falsehood” and also dubbed him as the “lawless” minister.

Prasad, however, asserted, “I understand their pain. But I maintain certain standards and will not fall to their level to respond to them.”

Prasad also accused Gandhi of making light of the situation of the bodies of the 39 Indians killed in Iraq.

The BJP also criticised the Congress and stated that the party and its chief that have hired the services of the company as well.

Prasad alleged that the influence of the controversial firm was evident in the Congress’ campaign in Gujarat and stated that it ran a “poisonous and divisive campaign” in the state.
