The Congress and the Janata Dal Secular government in Karnataka will assume power today after a week of political uncertainties and many discussions. JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy will take oath as the chief minister and the Congress leader and PCC President G Parameshwara will take oath as the deputy CM before the governor Vajubhai Vala on 4.30 pm today.

Congress gets the lion's share of ministries as there are 22 ministers would go to the Congress and 12, including the post of the chief minister, will be with the JD(S), out of the state's 34 ministries. The ministers will take the oath later.

Senior Congress leader KR Ramesh Kumar named as the speaker candidate for Congress while the JD)S)' deputy speaker candidate is yet to be named.

Opposition leaders will take this swearing-in ceremony as an opportunity to show their strength and to send a strong message to Modi-Shah team as leaders from the anti-BJP parties such as Congress president Rahul Gandhi, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, BSP President Mayawati, Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu, former CM of UP and SP leader Akhilesh Yadav, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, RLD founder Ajit Singh, actor and the leader of Makkal Needhi Maiam Kamal Haasan will be attending the function.
