ME News Bureau: Palanpur: Alleging that Pakistan was interfering in Gujarat Assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi sought a clarification from the Congress over its top partymen who are believed to have met leaders from that country recently.

Modi, speaking at an election campaign here, also raised questions over the alleged demand by Sardar Arshad Rafiq, former director general of the Pakistan Army, that senior Congress leader Ahmed Patel be made Gujarat chief minister.

Modi said Mani Shankar Aiyar, former Congress minister, had called him "neech" a day after the alleged Pakistani leaders-top Congressmen meeting.

Modi stated that there were media reports on December 9 about a meeting at Aiyar's house for about three hours. It was attended by Pakistan's high commissioner, Pakistan's former foreign minister, India's former vice president and former prime minister Manmohan Singh, the Prime Minister added.

"The very next day, Aiyar had called me 'neech', which is is a serious matter," he said. “Rafiq had backed Ahmed Patel as the next Gujarat chief minister.”

"While Pakistan Army's former DG is interfering in Gujarat's polls, its people are holding a meeting at Mani Shankar Aiyar's house," he said.

After the meeting, the people of Gujarat, backward communities, poor people and Modi were insulted, Modi stated. “Don't you think such actions ignite doubts?" he asked.

Congress should inform the people of India what precisely it was up to, he said.
