Actor Rajinikanth recently stated that he wants to fill the political vacuum in Tamil Nadu after the death of J Jayalalithaa in 2016, and give good governance to the people.

The veteran actor announced on December 31 last year his decision to enter politics. He however, did not announce his party as he gave his first political speech to an audience at an event marking the birth centenary celebrations of MGR, as Ramachandran is popularly known.

Unveiling the MGR statue at the MGR University in Chennai, he stated, “I can repeat the good governance that MGR provided, with the help of good advice of good people.”

He further added that he wants to step into politics because of the vacuum in Tamil Nadu and is confident of providing a government like that of MGR who ruled the state for almost a decade until his death in 1987. He said, “Nobody can match MGR even in 1,000 years and that includes me.”

Further Rajnikanth asserted, “Politicians have been asking me ‘Why are you coming to politics, leaving the grease paint and arc lights?’ It is because you people are not doing the job, I have to come to politics.”

Rajinikanth however, advised the students at the college to know politics but concentrate on their studies and stated, “Even if I start a political party, do not enter the party, while you are still a student.”
