UAE attends World School

The UAE is the only Arab country participating in the 2018 World Schools Championship in Badminton, which opened in India yesterday, with 200 players representing 15 countries participating.

The championship, which will run until April 24, brings together young and talented shuttlers from all over the world at Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex in Balewadi.

Ahmed Abdul Rahman, the head of the Sports Activity Department at the Ministry of Education, who is leading the country's mission in the event, said the participation is aimed at honing players' skills and earning them good experience through interactions with world's top teams in this sport, like India.

The event is being played in two categories – selected teams and school teams. Each Schools team comprises of students from the same school, whereas selected teams comprise of players from the same country and from different schools. The matches are played in a team format with two doubles and three singles matches. Each team comprises of five boys and five girls.
