BJP is winning big in Gujarat local polls, the party had won 2,085 of 8,474 seats across municipalities, leaving Indian National Congress and Aam Aadmi Party far behind in the race. State elections are due next year and the current results will be a confidence booster as the party has surged ahead in 75 of the 81 municipalities with Congress seats dropping to four and Aam Aadmi Party poised to win in two seats.
Of a total of 8,474 seats involved, elections were held on 8,235 seats while in the rest, candidates were elected unopposed.
Asaduddin Owaisi’s AMIM had also contested the elections apart from the traditional rivals. AMIM had fielded candidates in minority dominated seats Modasa and Bharuch municipalities, and also fielded its candidate in Godhra municipality.
