Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K. Palaniswami said Thursday that the districts of Tirunelveli and Kancheepuram will be divided into two new districts with headquarters in Tenkasi and Chengalpattu.

Announcing this in the Assembly, Palaniswami said representations were received from ministers, legislators and public to bifurcate big districts like Tirunelveli and Kancheepuram.

He said that for administrative comfort the bifurcation is created. With this, Tamil Nadu's complete number of districts will rise to 35. For these two new districts, Tenkasi and Chengalpattu, Palaniswami said distinct representatives will be appointed.
